Since 1861, the Accademia has occupied the buildings of the Camaldolese Monastery of the Rose that date back to the twelfth century. The building was confiscated from the order in the Napoleonic period and later donated to the Academy of Sciences for its permanent headquarters. The display space around the cloister occupies two floors and there are also rooms on the ground floor (including the large Auditorium), in the basement and a raised first floor.
