The octagonal cabinet contains human anatomical specimens prepared by Paolo Mascagni in Siena in the second half of the eighteenth century, in order to study the lymphatic system. He developed a technique that consisted in injecting larger lymphatic vessels with mercury so that it spread by gravity into the adjacent network, making it visible.
